Tim Spiker

The Netherlands [NL]

Biography

Starting production at only 14 years after being given FL Studio by a friend, Tim reached for this new software.
The idea was to create copyright free music for his YouTube Channel.
The channel never made it, but the hunger for music kept growing. At 21 he invested in himself and took the deadmau5 MasterClass
This along with help from Marketing coaches gave him enough to start on his own.
He built a mask from DiY materials and Tim left the comfort of The Netherlands to set out to achieve bigger things in Barcelona.
Barcelona:
At age 24 after playing in Coffee Shops & Bars for nearly one year, he layed the connections and bridges to achieve a bigger future.
Working in places such as « Amarre 69 », « Roots & Rolls » eventually gave him connections to « Club Slow BCN » where he played House & Techno.
Here he discovered the power of putting on a mask halfway during his set, he called it [The Iconic Switch], going from happy Ambience to Dark Ambience at the 30 Min Mark.
All phones went up during this [Iconic Switch], Tim says most influencers weren’t too happy about it, this act took away lots of attention from their chats with girls.
His minor success gave him confidence, he continued onward into the Drum & Bass scene where Dark Ambience is the main theme.
All went sound and well until his plane tickets for the first international set were cancelled due to Covid 19.
But this was not the end, he spend his gained time diving deeper into Production & Audio/Visual Productions, creating:
Hypnotizing combinations of Audio going in perfect symmetry with video to offer a positive way of distraction in a negative time period.
What’s perhaps more impressive is that he did this using basic video editing software.
This got him noticed once more and he joined the label « Ghost Work Records » an indie music label focused on;
giving smaller artists a step up into the world of Record Labels & Music Business.
Before I go Home:
In the end he succomed to financial crisis and had to return back home, in the process of doing so he Remastered all his prior releases under Ghost Work Records.
He didn’t do it for money, in fact, Tim says:
« Low income in combination with not much work being available in my Barcelona branch pushed me to make better music to sell in the future »
He nearly starved himself to death in the process inside of possibly:
« the tiniest room you could find in Barcelona, containing only one window, the room was filled with sigarette smoke day & night.
I had two JBL speakers setup and all I did was testing frequencies. I didn’t know how to explain to people what I was doing at this time and it made me depressed and home sick »
Going Home:
Before he left Barcelona, on the day itself his bag containing his main Synthesizer, Production Laptop, Soundcard & Backup Drive nearly got stolen.
Tim says « The thief walked two blocks and I had to steal back my instruments from his back, it was a profound experience that I’ll never forget.
If it wasn’t for me getting back my bag, this music wouldn’t exist today »
One freezing bus trip right before Christmas from the center of Barcelona back to The Hague, he made it home, expanded his studio and is now happy to be signed under JUMANZIK!
